SYNOPSIS

Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie are suddenly transported back to Narnia, although only a year has passed in their own world.

They discover that hundreds of years have passed in Narnia. Their former castle, Cair Paravel, is now a ruin and Narnia has been conquered by the Telmarines. The talking animals, dwarfs and other magical inhabitants of Old Narnia have been driven into hiding.

The rightful heir to the throne is the young Prince Caspian. His uncle, King Miraz, has seized power and intends that his own son should inherit the kingdom.

Caspian escapes and joins the surviving creatures of Old Narnia. When his position becomes desperate, he blows Queen Susan's ancient magical horn, summoning the Pevensie children back to Narnia.

With Aslan's return, the children and Caspian fight to restore the old Narnia and place its rightful king upon the throne.

ORDER NOTE

Prince Caspian was the second Narnia book published, but it is fourth in the chronological sequence.

The Horse and His Boy takes place during the Pevensies' reign as kings and queens, so chronologically that adventure occurs before Prince Caspian.
