SYNOPSIS

Edmund and Lucy Pevensie are staying with their thoroughly disagreeable cousin Eustace Scrubb when a picture of a ship at sea suddenly comes alive and draws all three children into Narnia.

They are rescued by the Dawn Treader, commanded by King Caspian, who is now several years older. Caspian has undertaken a voyage eastward to find seven lords who were loyal to his father and were sent away during the reign of King Miraz.

Their journey takes them through a succession of strange islands and increasingly mysterious seas. They encounter slave traders, invisible creatures, enchanted places and many dangers.

Eustace undergoes the greatest personal transformation after his greed results in him becoming a dragon. His experience with Aslan profoundly changes him.

The voyage eventually carries them towards the very edge of the Narnian world and the country of Aslan.

ORDER NOTE

This was the third Narnia book published and is fifth chronologically.

It follows Prince Caspian in both sequences, although the chronological numbering differs because The Magician's Nephew and The Horse and His Boy occur earlier in Narnian history.
