SYNOPSIS

Eustace Scrubb, now greatly changed by his adventures aboard the Dawn Treader, is at school with Jill Pole. While escaping from bullies, the two find themselves in Aslan's country.

Aslan gives Jill a series of signs which she must remember and follow. Their task is to find Prince Rilian, the only son of the now elderly King Caspian, who disappeared years earlier while searching for the creature responsible for his mother's death.

With the wonderfully gloomy but steadfast Marsh-wiggle Puddleglum as their companion, Eustace and Jill travel north through dangerous country and eventually descend into a vast underground kingdom.

There they discover a mysterious knight held under an enchantment and restrained each night in a silver chair.

Their quest becomes a struggle against a powerful enchantress who attempts to convince them that Narnia, Aslan and even the world above ground are merely inventions of their imagination.

ORDER NOTE

The Silver Chair was the fourth Narnia book published but is sixth chronologically.

It follows The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and continues the story of Eustace Scrubb, while Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy are no longer the central characters.
