SYNOPSIS

In the final days of Narnia, an intelligent but deceitful ape named Shift discovers a lion skin and persuades the simple donkey Puzzle to wear it.

Shift claims that Puzzle is Aslan and begins issuing commands in Aslan's name. The deception allows enemies of Narnia to gain increasing power while many Narnians become confused about what Aslan truly represents.

King Tirian, the last king of Narnia, realises the danger and calls for help. Eustace Scrubb and Jill Pole return to Narnia and join him in the final struggle.

As the conflict develops, the very existence of Narnia approaches its end. Characters from earlier books return, and the story expands from a battle for a kingdom into the conclusion of the entire Narnian history.

The ending reveals that what appeared to be the end of Narnia is also the beginning of something much greater.

ORDER NOTE

The Last Battle is both the seventh and final book published and the seventh and final story chronologically.

It was published in 1956 and won the Carnegie Medal.

Unlike the other books, there is no disagreement about its position: whichever reading order is chosen, The Last Battle belongs at the end.
